Hon. Eng. Peter Chibwe Kapala
Hon. Eng. Peter C. Kapala, MP is the Minister of Energy for the Republic of Zambia. In this role, he is responsible for policy formulation and implementation in the areas of renewable energy sources, electricity, energy policy, nuclear energy policy, oil pipeline and refineries, petroleum, and petroleum storage and pricing. He was nominated as a Member of Parliament and appointed to this role by the Republican President Mr. Hakainde Hichilema in September 2021. Prior to his appointment, he was a Civil/Structural Engineer with over 20 years of experience in the building industry. He holds a Master’s Degree in Civil and Structural Engineering from The University of Sheffield in England and an Advanced Technician Certificate from Northern Technical College in Ndola. Before becoming the Minister of Energy, he was the Director of Civilstruts Consulting Engineers, where he was responsible for overall design, quality control, and supervision of civil and structural engineering works. In the past, he has worked as a project engineer at ZMCK Consulting Engineers and as a structural engineering design technician at Indeco Limited and ZMCK Consulting Engineers. He has also completed vocational work at Sheffield City Council and Moorehead Consulting Engineers in the UK. He is a Fellow of the Engineering Institution of Zambia, a Member of the Engineers Registration Board of Zambia, the Association of Consulting Engineers of Zambia, the National Council for Construction, and the Zambia Bureau of Standards. The Hon. Minister has extensive experience in civil and structural engineering designs and construction supervision.
